This will be the first ever FFLA conference to be held within USFS Region 4. This very scenic area contains quite a few nice fire lookouts that we plan to visit, and the conference agenda promises to include many interesting activities and programs. Mark your calendars now and plan on making the trip to McCall. You'll be glad you did. You do not have to be a current FFLA member to attend, because we're sure that once you come and see what we're all about, you'll choose to join us.

Early Highlight Summary

Lookout tours - The plan at this point will be to travel to the unique No Business LO (SITPA) one afternoon - probably Friday, and to Brundage LO (also SITPA) probably on Saturday afternoon - depending on SITPA staffing schedules. And Sunday I expect that there will be a long loop trip to several Payette NF lookouts. We might also end up offering multiple Sunday tours in different directions as was done last year in California, which would allow for visits to Boise NF and Nez Perce NF lookouts on the way home for those inclined. There are also a couple of actively staffed hiker-only access lookouts in the area, for those who may prefer that experience. All of this will be laid out at the
conference so that attendees can join whichever Sunday tour group they prefer.

McCall, ID is in a beautiful area with a rich fire lookout history, as well as a continuing presence of existing staffed lookouts. I strongly urge all of you on this list to come join us if it is at all possible. I'm know that you'll be glad you did.

Directions -

Camp Morrison is on the east side of Payette Lake, at 2306 Eastside Drive. From 3rd Street in McCall, turn east onto Railroad Avenue, left on Roosevelt, right on Hemlock, and left on Davis. Go about .5 miles on Davis and turn right on Lick Creek Rd. Go about 1 mile on Lick Creek, then turn left on Eastside Drive. Camp Morrison is about 3 miles up Eastside Drive, on your right. You can't miss the sign. Total mileage from McCall is 4.3 miles. You will be following signs to Ponderosa State.
