The 2000 Western Regional FFLA Conference, "Reveling in the Past / Perspectives for the Future", hosted jointly by the Oregon and Nevada-Northern California chapters, will be held in Yreka, California, the first weekend in June. The Siskiyou County Museum in Yreka will be the setting for the Friday and Saturday sessions. Registration will begin at 7:00 a.m. on Friday, continuing through the day. The conference is set to kick off at 8:00 a.m. with an orientation for the day, followed by a keynote address from the Klamath National Forest Supervisor. With the Friday session, more agency employees are able to participate as part of their "official" duties. Other agency presentations on Friday will include reports on restorations, rentals, recreation, detection history, and suppression activities from Winema, Rogue River, Siskiyou, Klamath, Six Rivers, and Shasta-Trinity NF and California Department of Forestry personnel. Friday evening, as usual, will see the meeting of those members of the FFLA Board of Directors who are in attendance. Saturday will see the conference resume at 8:00 a.m. with the local Klamath NF District Ranger welcoming the group, followed by a keynote address by the Forest Supervisor of the Rogue River National Forest. Reports on lookout activities will take up much of the rest of the day’s program; reports are expected from San Bernardino/Angeles Fire Lookout Host Program, Buck Rock Foundation, Sand Mountain Society, FFLA Eastern Region, and Oregon, Idaho/Montana, Washington, and other FFLA Chapters. The group will take a "virtual" lookout tour of the Sierra Nevada Forests, and Oregon members Rob and Carrol Hoeye will present, "999 Osborne Lookout Sites - from Prints to CD-ROM". It is hoped to have an added attraction in a presentation on the history of the State of Jefferson movement, when at one time it was proposed to create a separate state in the Northern California-Southern Oregon area. The evening program at the Boston Shaft Restaurant will include dinner, auction, slide show, and story-telling. Sunday will be dedicated to lookout tours.
