WESTERN REGIONAL CONFERENCE
|
|
The San Bernardino N.F. and its newest partner, the Angeles N.F. will host this year's western conference. The San Bernardino N.F. has eight fire lookouts remaining. Three years ago, the Forest and the San Bernardino National Forest Association (SBNFA) collaborated to create a sophisticated volunteer program of Fire Lookout Hosts, which today number over 250 volunteers serving in five of the eight lookouts; rehabilitation plans for the remaining three lookouts are being developed. Big Bear, sixty miles south of Los Angeles, is a beautiful mountain resort combmunity. All types of accommodations are available, from free primative campsites to state of the art campgrounds, RV parks, hotels inns, and b&b's. Conference registration fee (and meals) will continue to be a good value as in years past. The tenative schedule includes registration and kickoff on Wednesday, pre-conference workshops on topics such as grantwriting and database on Thursday, various sessions on Friday and Saturday, and tours on Sunday. The extended schedule is aimed toward attracting agency personnel during their normal work week. Evening activities include a Look-toberfest with hors d'oeuvres on Friday evening, and the traditional group dinner on Saturday evening to be followed by "Lies and Strorytelling". A complete conference brochure containing all information will be available in June and mailed to all FFLA members. To request conference information to be sent to a non-member, please contact Kristine Komar, San Bernardino National Forest Association at (909) 884-6634 x3121, email: kkomar@js-net.com, FAX (909) 383-5586, or by mail at SBNFA, 1824 South Commercenter Circle, San Bernardino, CA 92408-3430.
