Lookout Restoration Grant |
| Mount Danaher, CaliforniaThe
California Department Department of Forestry and Fire Protection’s Mount Danaher
Lookout was the recipient of the FFLA Restoration Grant Program’s first award
in 2006. $500 was awarded to the CDF for purchase of supplies and materials to
reopen the tower, located at the CDF Amador-Eldorado Unit station near Camino,
off of Highway 50 east of Placerville. The 100-foot steel tower was built in 1949 and modified with a catwalk added in 1960. The tower had been used as needed by the CDF, but has been closed due to the poor condition of the steps. Shutters on the cab are in need of repair and the wood is cracked, loose, and very worn on three-quarters of the 132 steps. Plans are to replace the wooden steps with steel stair treads. |
