Lookout Restoration Grant

Beebe Hill, NY

The local Beebe Hill FFLA Chapter has been awarded the FFLA Restoration Grant Program's fourth award in 2006. Bill Starr, FFLA-NY Director, is chairing the project. The $500 grant is to be used toward the completion of restoration of the Beebe Hill fire tower facility, including the observer cabin. Work is ongoing to restore the observer cabin interior to make it a museum. It is hoped that the cabin will be fully restored by the summer of 2007.

Replacement of broken window panes and rotting window casements are some of the immediate tasks to be undertaken on the cabin. Tower restoration tasks will include replacing all bolts and nuts, raising railing heights, and completing painting. Beebe Hill is listed on the National Historic Lookout Register (US #242, NY #19).
