I am pleased to appoint you as the State Director of the Maine Chapter of the Forest Fire Lookout association effective today. We currently have 20 members in the chapter. A list of names, addresses, phone numbers and emails is enclosed.

A sheet describing the duties of FFLA Directors is also enclosed. As I mentioned on the phone, we have three meetings a year of the Board of Directors and they are pleasant events with a one-day business meeting followed by optional field trips to nearby fire lookouts.

Your longtime friendship with David Hilton and his family as well as Keith & Shirley Goodrich is a great advantage to you in accepting this role. The outgoing director, Bill Spach, dropped off his files at my office this week (on his way to Afghanistan) and I will mail them to you.

I am also mailing you a supply of FFLA brochures, which have proven effective in gaining new members.

Our Deputy Chair for the eastern states is Henry Isenberg of Massachusetts. By copy of this letter I am asking him to email you a note of welcome as well.

The updated National Historic Lookout Certificates for the David Hilton Memorial are on their way to you by mail.
