Posted 9/11/2010

This is a Washington State DNR type cabin on a 20 foot steel tower. It was constructed in 1959 for a lookout mountain in Washington. In 1985 it was purchased and moved to it's present location of approximately 12 acres near Fernwood, Idaho and is very close to original. The asking price is $139,500 and the Sellers will consider financing with terms to suit Seller. This can be viewed on the following website -

Florida - DAVANA LLC has Three Towers for Sale

FFLA member David Vana currently has two fire towers for sale.  Two 100-foot Aermotor LS-40s came from near Panama City, Florida where he took them down in the fall of 2008.  His friend submitted the bids for the Florida surplus towers a day late, but David was able to fly down from New York and purchase three (West Bay, Mossy Head, and Wausau) from Red Foreman.  Foreman had been the successful bidder for several of the surplus state towers, as well as having previously picked up others.  Vana then determined that the Wausau tower needed a bit too much work, so sold it at cost.  Red was involved with the successful bidders for three other Florida surplus towers, so was busy getting six towers down and moved last fall, all within about three months!

Both towers are in serviceable condition as is and both had been painted once or twice.  A crane was used to take the towers down in sections; then they were disassembled while on the ground.  The two towers were then loaded onto a dropbed semi-trailer with the tower cabins (less glass and flooring) loaded on top.  The whole lot was then shipped to Vana’s property in the Adirondack Mountains of Northern New York State, where the 100-foot Aermotors are priced at $24,000 each, “As Is, Where Is”; buyer pays freight.

Vana restores and rebuilds fire towers on site for private buyers.  He deals in all aspects from procurement to foundations and final assembly.  Along the way when contracted to do so, he will sell "As Is", repair and restore, or restore to as new condition.  He is having one totally re-galvanized and is building a new cab, re-manufacturing wooden frame windows to near original design, and adding metal grate stairs.  He will gladly discuss the costs of being contracted to restore and rebuild towers.   A website is in the works, hoping to be up soon.

David’s first fire tower project in 2005 was the removal of the 60-foot Medford (Maine) Aermotor tower and restoration and reassembly on a private estate in Pennsylvania.
