Eastern Meeting Photos
Western CT Area - August 17- 19, 2001

Downtown Hartford, CT
Here are the first of the Ct. Photos from our tourings. The first 3 are of the Travelers insurance building in downtown Hartford.

Look at the three pics and find the glass enclosed room near the top, This is as far as we were allowed to go. It is 215 steps above the 25th floor of the building. The lookout is above where
we were in an open area 10 feet above, up a ladder and thru a trap door. This lookout was
used durring the late teens and up until the CCC's built towers in the 1930's. The top of the
bld. is 600 ft on a 500 ft elevation.

Here we have the inside of the glass enclosed area we were in. We are looking at the large lights that illuminate the room and that shine out from the top at night.

Mohawk Montain, Cornwall, CT
Mohawk mtn. is the site of the first and last place in CT. to have a working fire lookout.
This was last used in 1985, it was not possible to climb as it is owned by AT&T and we were not permitted to get access.

Mohawk Montain, Cornwall, CT
Next on Mohawk Mountain is the old Booth Hill fire tower, it was moved to and put up on
Mohawk Mountain just 100 yards away from the fire tower for the public to have a view. It's view is very poor due to tree blockage of more than 200 degrees. It is in poor shape and heavely vandalized!

Dennis Hill, Norfolk, CT
Our next stop was at Norfolk, Ct. Dennis hill, at one time a private estate of a DR. and fire warden. He built this platform to look for fires and upon his death he donated his land to the state as a state park. This was his home, gutted by fire and vandalized, it was partly saved by the state and the platform was replaced only in the early 1990's when an old photo of it
was found

Beebe Hill, Austerlitz, NY
Here is the last of the stops we made to towers on our tour. It is of Beebe hill in New York, our tower under restoration. The tower is now getting its first painting in over 15 years.

I hope you all enjoyed seeing our tour pictures! if anyone has any questions please feel
free to ask me!
