| MEMBERSHIP: The Wyoming Chapter currently consists of 10 paid members. We lost two members, but gained two new members. Wyoming is a big state with members spread well apart. We have not had any meetings this year. RESTORATION/PROJECTS: Member Joe Luck, Casper, Wyoming and I have been in touch with the local District Ranger concerning restoration of Blackhall Mountain Lookout and Kennady Peak Lookout. Both of these lookouts are on the Medicine Bow National Forest. We are hopeful we can make some progress on these this coming summer. Joe has tentative approval to use Boy Scouts from the Casper area to do some work on Kennady Peak. Our goal is to make both of these lookouts available for public rental. Kennady Peak Lookout is in much better condition that Blackhall Mountain Lookout and has the best chance of coming on line the soonest. PLAN OF WORK FOR 2009 We are aware that the Forest Service has submitted a $5.5 billion proposal for consideration to the new administration of which $275 million is designated for facilities maintenance. 90,000 jobs are proposed in this program. We see this as an opportunity for some of these funds to be directed for restoration of lookouts in Wyoming. We will be contacting the Forest Service in Wyoming to encourage them to consider lookout restoration as part of this program. Since this is a national program, other Chapters may want to contact the Forest Service in their Chapter areas. We plan to encourage the Forest Service to include both Kennady Peak Lookout and Blackhall Mountain Lookout in this facilities maintenance program. Respectfully submitted: Pat Lynch |
