Forest Fire Lookout Association Inc

Webmaster Report
2005

Accomplishments since last update (1/15/05)

Largest Accomplishment - Tower Page Expansion
We have spent considerable time tracking down and compiling as many State Tower/Lookout lists as possible. Additional States added in 2005 -

o Alabama (Minimal Content - A beginning)
o Ohio (Re-linked to External Site for Full List)
o California (Multiple links to all areas)
o Alaska (All available info on the 2 lookouts)
o Hawaii (All available info on the 1 lookout)
o North Dakota (Full List w/details)
o Nevada (Full List w/details)
o Illinois (Full List)
o Nebraska (Full List)
o Iowa (Full List w/details)
o Mississippi (Full List)
o Arkansas (Full List)
o Added an "Additional Info" Section for some States for overflow data

Response continues to be favorable to this "work in progress". For those states that have well build web sites, we are simply linking to those lists for now and focusing on states that have no information posted. For those that have sections on the site today, we will attempt to add full details when possible.

I thank those directors and members that have spent much time assisting me in compiling this data. I would ask your continued cooperation and input on this effort.

Other Site Details
o Continued updates of the standard departments
o Many other small tweaks and enhancements
o Web Site hits steady, up about 5% from last year
o More work on gathering archives accomplished
o "Face Lift" for the Website did not happen in 2005 due to time constraints. Higher value items such as inventories was the priority

Challenges
o Although there was some improvement in 2005, we continue to notice that there is less than stellar interest in sending updates to the Web Site. There is an incredible amount of chapter activities going on and we are only capturing a small amount of it on the web site. The web site is a powerful tool for FFLA awareness that we are missing out on. I would ask that we all try a little harder to provide updates for the Website in 2006.

o 2005 was the first year that we did not receive Chapter Reports (for year 2004) from all Chapters.

Web Site Future Plans
o Continue to work aggressively on populating the Tower Page
o Add more archives and post an "FFLA Chronology" section
o Assess the possibility of a new "Face Lift" in 2006
o Proposal on the table for online advertising

Respectfully Submitted,
Bill Cobb
