LOOKOUT ACTIVITIES
No major changes in lookout staffing levels from recent years. No lookouts were lost to fire or removal in Washington this year that I am aware of.

Heybrook LO (Mt Baker-Snoqualmie NF) restoration was completed. Dedication is tentatively scheduled for some time this spring, and the lookout should be available for renting sometime after that.

Kelly Butte LO (Mt Baker-Snoqualmie NF), Jumpoff LO (Wenatchee NF), Cascade LO (former DNR, on private land), and Puyallup Ridge LO (also former DNR, on private land) were all thoroughly inspected to determine what will need to be done to restore these lookouts. A project schedule has been outlined for Kelly Butte which also includes some trail reconstruction - this is expected to get underway in 2004.

FFLA members were project leaders for all of the above activities.

Mt. Spokane Vista House LO (Mt. Spokane State Park) - significant restoration mostly done in 2002 was completed, although steps up to the LO cab have not yet been built.

The saved cab from the Mt. Spokane LO Tower that had been taken down a few years ago was to have been placed on a new shorter tower on nearby Quartz Mt for rental this year. However, that was not done because the military reserve helicopter needed to move the cab was busy over in Iraq. Hopefully this year, it will be different.
