Lookout staffing across Massachusetts has been constant. All usable towers operated as conditions warrant. The spring was extra dry in 2006 and then switched to a mostly wet situation. There were no notable large fires this past year. Ongoing maintenance continues and funding remains level even though staffing levels have dropped over that of previous years. RI continues to have 5 usable lookout towers, four of which are in the northern 1/3 rd of the state, West Greenwich being the only southern tower, all are in use only during the extremist fire danger days. Staffing levels continue to drop as personnel retire. CT - No lookouts staffed in the state and only 7 known lookout structures remain standing. During the past year, chapter membership and funds have remained level. Although there were no trips this year due to schedules, many are planned for 2007. In MA, the old Waltham tower was put up for sale. It currently has no cab. In additon, Holbrook Tower, the oldest original standing Fire Tower in Massachusetts, erected in 1926, was demolished. There were no new NHLR nominations in 2006, but 4 expected in 2007. In RI and CT, there have been many conversations regarding activities and research, but there have been no notable results. A trip to the CCC Museum in Stafford Springs, CT and a trip to check out a tower in Orenaug Park, Woodbury, CT are planned for 2007. Respectfully submitted….
