Recruitment:
The Oregon Chapter was asked to conduct seven formal talks' on fire lookouts. In doing so, we felt that is was time for us to update our visual displays. We created two photo pictorials of Oregon lookouts, past and present. We also create a map of Oregon that shows the locations of all standing and former sites in the state. We restored a five foot model lookout tower that was donated to us. We also produced a flyer to handout at our shows that's focus is on Oregon lookouts, and the Oregon Chapter of the FFLA.

We pasted out over 600 FFLA flyers at lookouts, ranger stations, and interpretive centers throughout Oregon. We left flyers at 4 locations in Northern California, 3 locations in Montana, 3 locations in western Idaho, and 2 locations in western Washington.

Lookout Projects and Surveys:

Iron Mountain Lookout, we made four trips (and hikes up the mountain) to salvage items from the lookout before it was brought down.

Bald Butte Lookout, (Burns Interagency Fire Zone) we made two trips to salvage windows, door, and lightening rods before it was burnt to the ground.

Big Rock Lookout was surveyed at the request of the private owners to estimated the cost to restore the lookout, and to see if the FFLA was interested in adopting the lookout. We also made a second trip to seal up the lookout for the winter.

Wild Horse Lookout was surveyed at the request of the USFS to determine if the lookout could be restored, and turned into a rental. It was determined that the cab is be on restoration.

Tallowbox Lookout was surveyed to assess fire damage from vandals. The plan is to build a new 20' all steel tower in the spring of 2008.

Mount Stella Lookout was surveyed to see if it could be restored, and turned into a rental. If work is not done soon to stabilize this lookout, and garage we could be losing it soon.

Ship Mountain Lookout was surveyed to see if it could be moved from its location in California to Oregon, to be restored, and saved. Currently waiting on transfer of ownership.

Bly Ranger Station Lookout, (Fremont NF) the small cab from the 1950's 20' wooden tower was remove from the ranger station, and moved to a city park in Bly, Oregon.

Sexton Mountain Lookout to conduct a joint survey with ODF to determine how to relocate the 1921 D-6 cupola cabin to the Tillamook Forestry Center.
