Minnesota Chapter Report
2007

One more fire tower was saved by accepting the East Bemidji fire tower from the Minnesota Department of Transportation, the current owner. The fire tower was being used as an antenna site for the last fifteen years and was going to be preplaced by a new radio tower. The full story was in the fall FFLA magazine.

This summer near the end of June, there will be a ribbon cutting ceremony at the Scout Camp "Camp Wilderness" where the fire tower is now standing. I will be there representing the FFLA with a large display of fire tower items. Photos will follow.

Last summer at the Beltrami County Fairgrounds, where the "Pinewood Fire Tower" is standing, (Moved there in 2004) we had over 1200 persons climb the tower during fair week. The local Civil Air Patrol, CAP ran the tower, keeping the climb count at four persons at one time and handed out FFLA brochures.

This summer I will be adding more new steps to the Pinewood fire tower, we received a grant from the FFLA in 2006 and that money was used to buy the wood for one half of the steps, since I have donated three hundred dollars to finish the job.

There will be two fire towers for sale from a private person this summer, both towers are already down and laying on the ground and ready to be moved. If anyone is interested in these fire towers, email me at: quam@paulbunyan.net and I will put you on the "Notice" list so I can email you more information as I receive it.
