LOOKOUTS:
21 lookouts were actively staffed in 2006, and a few others were staffed occasionally. Active lookouts at First Butte, Oregon Butte, and Table Rock were closed for a time due to large wildfires. The two unused lookouts at North Twentymile were also wrapped to protect them from wildfire.

Alpine Lookout received a new hip roof, which should better protect it from heavy snows.

The new rental lookout on Quartz Mountain in Mt. Spokane State Park has proven to be so popular that park officials are now considering constructing an additional lookout on Mt. Kit Carson.

The Flattop Lookout relocation and restoration project is expected to continue in the coming year. Ongoing restoration activities at some other lookouts are also expected to continue in 2007.
