Forest Fire Lookout Association Inc

Eastern Deputy Chairman's Report
2005

Many good things and bad have happened in the last year in the eastern half of the FFLA., this report will touch on a few of the more important ones.

The eastern regional conference was held in Rhode island this past summer and was a success, with a good many surprises for all who attended. A restoration grant was presented to the owners of the Nooseneck tower ( the West Greenwich fire dept. ) also the tower was placed onto the NHLR.

Many towers in RI and CT were visited along the way. And much new info on towers in RI and CT was learned. Improvements in info about the ongoings in Maine, PA and NY on the lookout towers there is being learned . Great work on a tower project in MN is being done by Dave Quam!

Sub chapters are now in place in many eastern areas and the trend is expected to continue into 2006 and will hopefully grow into new full state chapters in the future.

Unfortunately there seems to be a couple of problems within the FFLA as well, one being Communication, or the lack there of from some of our chapters. All chapters and sub chapters NEED to promptly relay ALL of whats going on in their respected areas ASAP and not rely on others to disseminate that info.

More importantly, WE at the FFLA may have a big problem in the near future as it was brought to my attention that ANOTHER non profit group has copywrited the name FFLA! The Florida foreign language assoc. is promoting itself as the FFLA on its website and on it's printed materials. This could have a very devastating and COSTLY effect on us should they complain or sue us for our use of the name!
It is very unfortunate that when the subject was brought up to have our name copywrited some 8+ years ago, that nothing was done! It is my hope that SOMETHING will now be done to protect our LOGO, ASAP!!

Respectfully submitted,
Henry Isenberg
FFLA Eastern Dep. Chairman
