This year in Alberta there
were a couple of accomplishments. The first being a replica of a full
size, 24ft tall wood tower structure located on the grounds of the Rocky
Mountain House museum & built as a community project by members of
the Rocky Mountain House Flying Club from plans that I was able to provide
them.
The second project was the removal of Adams Creek lookout, an old style
mountain lookout cabin, to the grounds of the Grande Cache museum where
it is to be renovated & ultimately on display to the public. The cabin
had been replaced years ago by a newer structure but the forest service
just got around to removing the old cabin this past fall. The forest service
has been making real progress in recognising its history as the old method
of removal would have been simply to "torch" the structure.
Neither of these lookouts will be used for observation but they will provide
the public with an opportunity to see up close what lookouts are all about.
I am currently sending the newsletter to 42 people on my mailing list.
The forest service still covers all the costs of reprinting & mailing
which is a huge bonus.
Regards,
Bob
