Volunteer Lookout Rehab Offer
|
|
The year is fast disappearing already! I would
like to submit a volunteer offer for distribution to FFLA members
and friends for a rehab project that takes place during June. I am
indeed running a little behind in submitting this offer, but your
help with this would be appreciated. This summer I have been assigned the task of coordinating
the historic rehabilitation of a 65 year old fire lookout cab in the
mountains of central Idaho. It's a single story wood frame structure
with a wood shingle hip roof known as a "L-4 Type", and
unfortunately, has been heavily vandalized. It is named Granite Mountain
Lookout, and it is near the rural community of Gibbsonville in Lemhi
County, Idaho. The full work plan involves replacing the roof shingles,
striping the lead-based paint, sanding and painting the exterior and
interior, rehab of 19 large wood sash windows, and the construction
of 8 protective shutters for the windows. Some of this will be done
by Forest maintenance workers and other parts by a volunteer work
crew. I am now recruiting volunteers for the latter effort. |
