Most of the board has indicated they will attend which is good news, especially since this is a very important meeting to chart the future of FFLA and evaluate the opportunities within our Challenge Cost Share Grant from the U.S. Forest Service.

Please make your reservations today, so we can determine a firm account of those board members who will attend. We need this information to plan group meals and the Sunday fire tower tours.

More Good News....... A few weeks ago Southwest Airlines started serving Norfolk, VA with non-stop flights from Baltimore, MD and Las Vegas, NV. Let me know your flight number and arrival time and we will arrange a pick up at the airport to save the expense of a car rental or taxi.

Thanks to Henry Isenberg for making the hotel and meal arrangements, and to Mark Haughwout and Henry for planning the Sunday tours.

Please use that 800 reservation number now to get your first choice of rooms.

Accomodations Information

As you all know the National board meeting is being held in Virginia Beach,VA. As this is a large tourist area, the Hotels tend to be a bit expensive. I have managed to get us a good deal group rate of $39.00 dollars a night plus tax at a very good hotel. The name of the hotel is the "Surfside Oceanfront Inn" and it is located right on the beach at Atlantic Ave and 12th St. just south of the terminus of Rte I-264. The phone number is 1-800-437-2497, when calling to make your reservations please ask for "Jan" in Group Rates Dept. and please tell her your with the "Forest Fire Lookout Association." group!

And please let them know how many in your room as the rate is for either one or two persons. Additionally, let them know how long you will be staying as some of us will be staying 2, 3 and 4 nights. We are not only getting a rate of $10-20 dollars below the other hotels in the area but with all our rented rooms we are also getting the meeting room at no charge to us. The hotel has an indoor pool, sun deck, a fridge and safe in each room, each room has an ocean facing balcony, there is a gift shop and restaurant, coin laundry and every room has cable with HBO as well. Bike rentals are availible also and the hotel has a web site at....
http://www.vabeach.com/surfside_inn

If you are so inclined, there are other higher rate rooms there that have whirlpools and efficencies too. Please make your reservations as soon as possible

I have also planned to hold a tower tour of local towers and sites with in an hour of Virginia beach. (ten so far) If anyone wants to know of towers that they may visit on their way, let me know and i'll tell you what can be found along your routes. Below is a map to help you in
locating the hotel. The location of the hotel is at number 88.

In regards to dinner on Friday and Saturday night, we have 4 to choose from and I will let you know what they are as soon as I know myself.

Watch this space for more information. For additional Accomodation information, please contact Henry Isenburg.
